  • Price 599 USD per employee per month

Deel says it owns entities in more than 130 countries, which puts it among the largest owned networks of any EOR provider. Its published EOR fee of USD 599 per employee per month is in line with the other large platforms, and contracts run month to month. It suits companies hiring both contractors and employees across several countries. Before signing, get the deposit amount and FX markup in writing, confirm that no offboarding fee applies, and check which of your countries run through a partner rather than a Deel entity.

  • Price 699 USD per employee per month

Remote employs your staff through entities it owns in every country where it offers EOR, and its terms leave indemnities for EOR services uncapped, so it ranks well on compliance. The cost is a list fee of USD 699 per employee per month, and the margin in its monthly FX rate is not published. Standard terms can be cancelled on 30 days' notice, but an order form with a minimum contract value commits you for its full term and renews at a higher price. Shortlist it if owned entities in every country matter most to you, and get the FX margin and any order form terms in writing before you sign.

Employment contracts

Australian law does not strictly require a written contract, but the EOR issues one as the legal employer alongside the Fair Work Information Statement. Your company signs a separate service agreement.

The terms set out role, salary in AUD, working time, leave, notice and any restrictive covenants, and they cannot undercut the National Employment Standards or any modern award covering the role. The EOR is the counterparty to the employee, which is what removes the need for your own entity.

English is the standard contract language. Non-compete clauses for employees under the high income threshold are set to be banned from 2027, so check any restraint before you rely on it.

Fixed-term contracts are limited to two years or two consecutive contracts, whichever is shorter, unless an exception such as earnings above the high income threshold applies. Most EORs default to ongoing employment.

Probation

Probation in Australia is typically 3 to 6 months. Notice during probation is usually one week, and because probation is contractual rather than statutory, the terms must be stated in the contract.

Set probation from day one. Unfair dismissal protection starts after six months' service, or 12 months where the employer has fewer than 15 staff, however long the probation runs. General protections claims are available from day one.

Some EORs shorten probation as policy because they, not you, carry the dismissal risk. Ask before you agree a start date.

Working time and overtime

The standard full-time week is 38 hours plus reasonable additional hours. Overtime pay comes from modern awards rather than a general statutory rate.

Where an award applies, overtime usually starts at 1.5 times the base rate and moves to double time after the first two or three hours.

Many professional roles are still award-covered, so overtime can apply even on a salary. An annualised salary clause can absorb overtime into pay, and a guarantee of annual earnings above the high income threshold takes the role outside the award. Put the position in writing either way.

Leave and public holidays

Full-time employees get 4 weeks of paid annual leave and 10 days of paid personal/carer's leave, plus around 10 to 13 public holidays depending on the state. Parental, compassionate and long service leave sit on top.

Market practice for professional roles is close to the statutory 20 days, though some employers add a few more. Many awards add a 17.5% leave loading and unused leave is paid out on exit, so include both when you budget.

Personal/carer's leave covers both illness and caring for family members. Paid Parental Leave is government funded for up to 26 weeks at the national minimum wage and is normally paid through the employer's payroll, so confirm whether the EOR expects you to fund any top-up.

Termination and severance

Termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5. Notice runs one to four weeks by tenure, with an extra week for employees over 45 with two years' service, and statutory redundancy pay applies.

Either side may terminate on notice, and the employer can pay in lieu. Redundancy pay follows a fixed statutory scale of 4 to 16 weeks' pay for employees with at least a year's service, and the role must genuinely no longer be needed.

The EOR runs the process as the legal employer and will want the paperwork in order, including final pay, unused leave and any redundancy pay. Unfair dismissal claims open after the minimum employment period for employees under the high income threshold or covered by an award, so keep a documented reason.

Statutory benefits

Superannuation is the dominant statutory cost at 12% and applies to almost every employee, including temporary visa holders. Sponsored foreign hires also attract the Skilling Australians Fund levy at nomination.

Private health cover is not a standard benefit because Medicare covers public healthcare. Default life and income protection cover usually comes through the employee's super fund, and workers' compensation insurance is compulsory in every state.

EORs often add perks such as an employee assistance programme or salary packaging. Ask what is included in the fee and what is billed on top.

Payroll and tax

Payroll runs fortnightly or monthly in AUD. Income tax is withheld at source under PAYG and reported to the ATO through Single Touch Payroll each pay run.

Employer contributions add 12% super on top of gross salary, plus state payroll tax of roughly 4% to 7% above each state's threshold and workers' compensation premiums. That is before the EOR fee. Since 1 July 2026, super must reach the employee's fund within seven business days of each payday.

Package quotes are the trap. Australian salaries are often quoted as a total package that already includes super, so confirm base pay and super separately before you approve a budget.

Work permits

Foreign hires usually need a Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa, and the sponsor must be approved and pay at least the relevant income threshold and market salary rate. Processing takes up to about 8 weeks for the Specialist Skills stream and up to 10 months for Core Skills.

Ask whether the EOR sponsors directly or refers to a partner. Standard sponsorship does not allow on-hire arrangements, so an EOR placing a sponsored worker with your business generally needs an on-hire labour agreement, and few hold one. Income thresholds and the Skilling Australians Fund levy apply to the sponsor, not to you.

Set start dates after approval, not before.

Data protection

Employee data is handled under the Privacy Act 1988, but a private-sector employer's own employee records are largely exempt from the Australian Privacy Principles. The exemption is narrow and does not extend to candidate data or to your company's own handling of it.

Get the data handling terms in the service agreement, not just the privacy notice. Cross-border disclosures can leave the sender accountable for how the recipient handles the data.

Ask where payroll data is hosted and who in the partner chain can see it.

When to open your own entity

The usual trigger in Australia is 5 to 15 employees, or a permanent commercial presence. Below that, an EOR is normally cheaper and faster.

Registering a company with ASIC is quick, but the running cost is the point: a resident director, ASIC annual fees, accounting, audit rules for foreign-controlled companies, payroll tax registration and payroll software set an annual floor.

Permanent establishment risk is about what people do, not where payroll sits. Revenue-generating activity can create exposure regardless of the employment route.

G-P is one of the most compliance-focused EORs available, with over 100 of its own legal entities and a long record in heavily regulated countries. Its list price starts at USD 599 per employee per month, but independent reviewers report higher quotes, a one-off setup fee per hire, a deposit, an FX markup and an offboarding charge. Shortlist it if you’re a larger business that puts compliance ahead of cost, and get the full fee schedule in writing before you sign.

Oyster suits companies that want HR experts, legal support and termination handling included in one EOR fee, along with integrations for the most common HRIS and ATS platforms. The trade-offs are a USD 699 monthly list price, a refundable deposit of about one month's employment cost per hire, and EOR coverage of 120+ countries rather than the 180+ headline. There are no onboarding or offboarding fees, and monthly billing carries no minimum term.

Questions buyers ask about Australia

How much does it cost to employ someone in Australia through an EOR?
Budget the gross salary, plus 12% superannuation, state payroll tax and workers' compensation premiums, plus the EOR fee. Published EOR fees sit in the 199 to 699 USD per employee per month band, or a percentage of payroll.
How long does it take to onboard an employee in Australia?
Typically 2 to 7 working days once the candidate has accepted and right to work is confirmed. Sponsored visa cases take considerably longer.
Can an EOR terminate an employee in Australia?
Yes. Notice or pay in lieu applies and termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5, but the EOR will still want a documented reason to limit unfair dismissal exposure.
Does the EOR need its own entity in Australia?
Someone in the chain must hold a local entity, and only an approved sponsor can sponsor a Skills in Demand visa. Ask whether the provider owns the entity or uses a partner, in writing.
