  • Price 599 USD per employee per month

Deel says it owns entities in more than 130 countries, which puts it among the largest owned networks of any EOR provider. Its published EOR fee of USD 599 per employee per month is in line with the other large platforms, and contracts run month to month. It suits companies hiring both contractors and employees across several countries. Before signing, get the deposit amount and FX markup in writing, confirm that no offboarding fee applies, and check which of your countries run through a partner rather than a Deel entity.

  • Price 699 USD per employee per month

Remote employs your staff through entities it owns in every country where it offers EOR, and its terms leave indemnities for EOR services uncapped, so it ranks well on compliance. The cost is a list fee of USD 699 per employee per month, and the margin in its monthly FX rate is not published. Standard terms can be cancelled on 30 days' notice, but an order form with a minimum contract value commits you for its full term and renews at a higher price. Shortlist it if owned entities in every country matter most to you, and get the FX margin and any order form terms in writing before you sign.

Employment contracts

A written contract is required in Ghana for employment of six months or more, and the EOR issues it as the legal employer. Your company signs a separate service agreement.

The terms set out role, salary in GHS, working time, leave, notice and any restrictive covenants. The EOR is the counterparty to the employee, which is what removes the need for your own entity.

English is the standard contract language for commercial roles.

Fixed-term contracts are permitted, but a temporary worker kept on continuously for six months or more is treated as permanent, and most EORs default to indefinite terms.

Probation

Probation in Ghana is typically 3 to 6 months. The Labour Act only asks for a reasonable period fixed in advance, so the length and notice terms must be stated in the contract.

Set probation from day one. An extension needs the employee's agreement and a documented reason.

Some EORs shorten probation as policy because they, not you, carry the dismissal risk. Ask before you agree a start date.

Working time and overtime

The standard week is 40 hours, at 8 hours a day. Overtime must be paid, but the Labour Act leaves the rate to the contract or a collective agreement.

Market practice pays overtime at 1.5 times the hourly rate, rising to double on rest days and public holidays.

Overtime cannot be required until a rate has been set, so it is a contractual matter from day one. Put the position in writing either way.

Leave and public holidays

Employees get at least 15 working days of paid annual leave after 12 months of continuous service, plus 14 public holidays. Maternity leave sits on top, and sick leave is set by contract.

Market practice for professional roles sits above the statutory floor, so quote the market figure when you budget.

The Labour Act fixes no number of paid sick days, so sick pay rests on the contract and a medical certificate. Maternity leave is 12 weeks on full pay, funded entirely by the employer, and there is no statutory paternity leave yet. A pending Labour Bill would extend maternity leave to 14 weeks and add paternity leave, so check the EOR tracks it.

Termination and severance

Termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5. Notice runs one week to one month by contract length, and severance is only due on redundancy.

Either side may terminate on notice or pay in lieu, but the employer needs a fair reason under the Labour Act. Redundancy pay is negotiated rather than set by a statutory formula, and the Chief Labour Officer and any union must be told three months ahead.

The EOR runs the process as the legal employer and will want the paperwork in order, including final pay, unused leave and any redundancy settlement. Unfair termination claims go to the National Labour Commission, so keep a documented reason.

Statutory benefits

SSNIT pensions are the dominant statutory cost and cover Ghanaian and expatriate employees alike. Short-term expatriates can apply for an exemption, but contributing is the default.

Part of the SSNIT contribution funds the National Health Insurance Scheme, but private medical cover, dental and group life are standard for professional roles even though they are not mandatory.

EORs often bundle benefits through a group scheme. Ask what is included in the fee and what is billed on top.

Payroll and tax

Payroll runs monthly in GHS. PAYE income tax is withheld at source and paid to the Ghana Revenue Authority by the 15th of the following month.

Employer contributions add 13% on top of basic salary, for local and expatriate hires alike. That is before the EOR fee.

The two-tier pension split is the trap. Of the 18.5% total, 13.5% goes to SSNIT within 14 days of month end and 5% goes to a licensed Tier 2 trustee, so check the EOR remits both on time.

Work permits

Foreign hires need a work permit, and the sponsoring entity must have an immigrant quota slot available. Processing typically takes 4 to 8 weeks.

Ask whether the EOR sponsors directly or refers to a partner. A partner-model EOR often cannot sponsor at all, and immigrant quotas belong to the sponsor, not to you.

A residence permit is also needed before work begins, so set start dates after approval, not before.

Data protection

Employee data is processed under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), with the EOR acting as controller for employment records and processor for your instructions.

Get the data processing terms in the service agreement, not just the privacy notice. Cross-border transfers need a lawful basis.

Controllers must be registered with the Data Protection Commission, so ask for the EOR's certificate. Check where payroll data is hosted and who in the partner chain can see it.

When to open your own entity

The usual trigger in Ghana is 5 to 15 employees, or a permanent commercial presence. Below that, an EOR is normally cheaper and faster.

Incorporation here is straightforward, and the new investment law has dropped minimum capital for most non-trading businesses. The running cost is the point: two directors with one resident in Ghana, a qualified company secretary, accounting, audit and payroll software set an annual floor.

Permanent establishment risk is about what people do, not where payroll sits. Revenue-generating activity can create exposure regardless of the employment route.

G-P is one of the most compliance-focused EORs available, with over 100 of its own legal entities and a long record in heavily regulated countries. Its list price starts at USD 599 per employee per month, but independent reviewers report higher quotes, a one-off setup fee per hire, a deposit, an FX markup and an offboarding charge. Shortlist it if you’re a larger business that puts compliance ahead of cost, and get the full fee schedule in writing before you sign.

Oyster suits companies that want HR experts, legal support and termination handling included in one EOR fee, along with integrations for the most common HRIS and ATS platforms. The trade-offs are a USD 699 monthly list price, a refundable deposit of about one month's employment cost per hire, and EOR coverage of 120+ countries rather than the 180+ headline. There are no onboarding or offboarding fees, and monthly billing carries no minimum term.

Questions buyers ask about Ghana

How much does it cost to employ someone in Ghana through an EOR?
Budget the gross salary, plus 13% of basic salary in employer SSNIT contributions, plus the EOR fee. Published EOR fees sit in the 199 to 699 USD per employee per month band, or a percentage of payroll.
How long does it take to onboard an employee in Ghana?
Typically 2 to 7 working days once the candidate has accepted and right to work is confirmed. Work permit cases take considerably longer.
Can an EOR terminate an employee in Ghana?
Yes. Notice or pay in lieu applies and termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5, but the EOR will need a fair reason under the Labour Act to limit unfair termination exposure.
Does the EOR need its own entity in Ghana?
Someone in the chain must hold a local entity, and only that entity can sponsor a work permit. Ask whether the provider owns it or uses a partner, in writing.
