  • Price 599 USD per employee per month

Deel says it owns entities in more than 130 countries, which puts it among the largest owned networks of any EOR provider. Its published EOR fee of USD 599 per employee per month is in line with the other large platforms, and contracts run month to month. It suits companies hiring both contractors and employees across several countries. Before signing, get the deposit amount and FX markup in writing, confirm that no offboarding fee applies, and check which of your countries run through a partner rather than a Deel entity.

  • Price 699 USD per employee per month

Remote employs your staff through entities it owns in every country where it offers EOR, and its terms leave indemnities for EOR services uncapped, so it ranks well on compliance. The cost is a list fee of USD 699 per employee per month, and the margin in its monthly FX rate is not published. Standard terms can be cancelled on 30 days' notice, but an order form with a minimum contract value commits you for its full term and renews at a higher price. Shortlist it if owned entities in every country matter most to you, and get the FX margin and any order form terms in writing before you sign.

Employment contracts

Written employment contracts are mandatory in Honduras, and the EOR issues them as the legal employer. Your company signs a separate service agreement.

The contract sets out role, salary in HNL, working hours, leave, notice and confidentiality terms. The EOR is the counterparty to the employee, which is what removes the need for your own entity.

Spanish is the legal contract language. A bilingual version works for commercial roles, but the Spanish text is the one a labour court will read.

Fixed-term contracts are reserved for genuinely temporary work and capped at 12 months. A permanent role on a fixed-term contract is treated as indefinite, so most EORs default to indefinite terms.

Probation

Probation in Honduras is capped at 60 days. Either side can end the contract during it without notice or severance, but the period must be agreed in writing.

Set probation from day one. A shorter probation can be extended, but never beyond 60 days in total.

From day 61 the employee has full job-stability protection. Some EORs shorten probation as policy because they, not you, carry the dismissal risk. Ask before you agree a start date.

Working time and overtime

The standard day shift is 8 hours a day and 44 a week, paid as 48. Overtime is statutory, with a 12-hour ceiling on the working day.

Overtime is paid at a 25% premium in the day and 50% at night. Night shifts are capped at 6 hours a day and 36 a week.

Overtime is not tied to an earnings threshold, so professional hires are not automatically outside it. Put the hours and any overtime position in writing either way.

Leave and public holidays

Employees earn 10 working days of paid annual leave after their first year, rising to 20 from the fourth, plus 11 public holidays. Sick and maternity leave sit on top.

Leave steps up to 12 days after year two and 15 after year three. Three of the public holidays are grouped into Morazán Week in early October, so plan delivery dates around it.

Sick pay is shared: the employer covers the first three days, then the IHSS pays 66% of salary up to its ceiling. Maternity leave runs 84 days at the same IHSS rate, with the employer making up the difference, so confirm which side the EOR carries.

Termination and severance

Termination difficulty here is 4 out of 5. Notice runs 24 hours to two months by tenure, and severance reaches one month's pay per year of service, capped at 25 months.

After probation, dismissal without a justified cause triggers notice pay and full severance, and a court can order reinstatement. During notice, the employee is also entitled to one paid day a week to look for work.

Since 2024 employers pay 4% of salary into each employee's Labour Reserve Fund, and the balance is offset against severance on dismissal. The EOR runs the process as the legal employer and will want the paperwork in order, including final pay, pro-rated 13th and 14th month salaries, unused leave and severance net of the reserve fund. Keep a documented reason.

Statutory benefits

IHSS social security is the main statutory contribution and covers every employee, foreign nationals included. Employers also fund the RAP Labour Reserve Fund and the INFOP training levy.

Private medical cover and group life are common for professional roles even though they are not mandatory.

EORs often bundle benefits through a group scheme. Ask what is included in the fee and what is billed on top.

Payroll and tax

Payroll runs monthly or twice monthly in HNL. Income tax is withheld at source each month on a scale from 0% to 25%.

Employer contributions add up to 13.7% on top of gross salary, falling as pay rises because the IHSS and reserve fund ceilings are low. That is before the EOR fee.

The 14th month is the trap. Employees receive a 13th month salary in December and a 14th in June, so a year costs 14 salaries, not 12. Both are pro-rated on exit, so build them into every offer and every termination.

Work permits

Foreign hires need temporary residence and a work card from the Ministry of Labour, and the sponsoring entity applies. Processing commonly takes 2 to 6 months.

Ask whether the EOR sponsors directly or refers to a partner. A partner-model EOR often cannot sponsor at all, and the national workforce quota applies to the sponsor, not to you. At least 90% of its staff must be Honduran and receive at least 85% of total salaries.

Set start dates after approval, not before.

Data protection

Honduras has no comprehensive data protection law yet. Employee data rests on the constitutional right of habeas data, so the service agreement has to do the work a statute would.

Get the data processing terms in the service agreement, not just the privacy notice. A draft data protection bill has stalled in Congress for years, so the position may change.

Your home-country rules still govern what you send to the EOR. Ask where payroll data is hosted and who in the partner chain can see it.

When to open your own entity

The usual trigger in Honduras is 5 to 15 employees, or a permanent commercial presence. Below that, an EOR is normally cheaper and faster.

Incorporation takes a few weeks on paper, but the tax ID needs a legal representative with Honduran residency, which is where most timelines slip. The running cost is the point: accounting, municipal permits and monthly IHSS, RAP, INFOP and tax filings set an annual floor.

Permanent establishment risk is about what people do, not where payroll sits. Revenue-generating activity can create exposure regardless of the employment route.

G-P is one of the most compliance-focused EORs available, with over 100 of its own legal entities and a long record in heavily regulated countries. Its list price starts at USD 599 per employee per month, but independent reviewers report higher quotes, a one-off setup fee per hire, a deposit, an FX markup and an offboarding charge. Oyster suits companies that want HR experts, legal support and termination handling included in one EOR fee, along with integrations for the most common HRIS and ATS platforms. The trade-offs are a USD 699 monthly list price, a refundable deposit of about one month's employment cost per hire, and EOR coverage of 120+ countries rather than the 180+ headline. There are no onboarding or offboarding fees, and monthly billing carries no minimum term.

Questions buyers ask about Honduras

How much does it cost to employ someone in Honduras through an EOR?
Budget the gross salary, plus the 13th and 14th month salaries, plus up to 13.7% in employer contributions, plus the EOR fee. Together the statutory costs add roughly 22% to 30% to twelve months of salary. Published EOR fees sit in the 199 to 699 USD per employee per month band, or a percentage of payroll.
How long does it take to onboard an employee in Honduras?
Typically 5 to 14 working days once the candidate has accepted and right to work is confirmed. Work permit cases take considerably longer.
Can an EOR terminate an employee in Honduras?
Yes. After probation it needs a justified cause or full notice and severance, and termination difficulty here is 4 out of 5. The EOR will still want a documented reason to limit wrongful dismissal and reinstatement exposure.
Does the EOR need its own entity in Honduras?
Someone in the chain must hold a local entity, and only that entity can sponsor a work permit. Ask whether the provider owns it or uses a partner, in writing.
