  • Price 599 USD per employee per month

Deel says it owns entities in more than 130 countries, which puts it among the largest owned networks of any EOR provider. Its published EOR fee of USD 599 per employee per month is in line with the other large platforms, and contracts run month to month. It suits companies hiring both contractors and employees across several countries. Before signing, get the deposit amount and FX markup in writing, confirm that no offboarding fee applies, and check which of your countries run through a partner rather than a Deel entity.

RemoteVerified

90countries covered

  • Price 699 USD per employee per month

Remote employs your staff through entities it owns in every country where it offers EOR, and its terms leave indemnities for EOR services uncapped, so it ranks well on compliance. The cost is a list fee of USD 699 per employee per month, and the margin in its monthly FX rate is not published. Standard terms can be cancelled on 30 days' notice, but an order form with a minimum contract value commits you for its full term and renews at a higher price. Shortlist it if owned entities in every country matter most to you, and get the FX margin and any order form terms in writing before you sign.

Employment contracts

Jamaican law accepts oral contracts, but EORs issue written terms as the legal employer. Your company signs a separate service agreement.

The terms set out role, salary in JMD, working time, leave, notice and any restrictive covenants. The EOR is the counterparty to the employee, which is what removes the need for your own entity.

English is the official language and the standard for employment contracts.

Fixed-term contracts are permitted, but repeated renewals invite scrutiny and most EORs default to indefinite terms.

Probation

Probation in Jamaica is not set by statute and typically runs 3 months. A probation of 90 days or less can usually be ended without statutory notice, but the terms must be stated in the contract.

Set probation from day one. An extension needs the employee's agreement and a documented reason.

Some EORs shorten probation as policy because they, not you, carry the dismissal risk. Ask before you agree a start date.

Working time and overtime

The standard week is 40 hours. Statutory overtime comes from the minimum wage rules, so its reach into professional salaries is less clear-cut.

Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate beyond 40 hours a week, with double time for rest days and public holidays.

Senior and managerial hires are often treated as outside the overtime rules by contract, so overtime becomes a contractual matter rather than a statutory one. Put the position in writing either way.

Leave and public holidays

Employees get 10 working days of paid vacation once they have worked 110 days in the year, rising to 15 after 10 years, plus 10 public holidays. Sick and maternity leave sit on top.

Market practice for professional roles usually sits above the statutory floor, so quote the market figure when you budget.

Paid sick leave accrues at one day per 22 days worked, reaching 10 days a year, with a medical certificate for absences over three days. Maternity leave is 12 weeks after 52 weeks' service, 8 of them paid by the employer, and there is no statutory paternity leave in the private sector, so confirm what the EOR offers.

Termination and severance

Termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5. Notice runs 2 to 12 weeks by tenure, and statutory severance applies only on redundancy.

Either side may terminate on notice or pay in lieu once the employee has four weeks' service. Redundancy pay follows a statutory formula of two weeks' pay per year of service for the first 10 years and three weeks per year after that, payable after two years' service.

The EOR runs the process as the legal employer and will want the paperwork in order, including final pay, unused vacation and any redundancy pay. Unjustifiable dismissal claims go to the Industrial Disputes Tribunal, which can order reinstatement, so keep a documented reason.

Statutory benefits

The National Insurance Scheme and the National Housing Trust are the core statutory schemes, both funded by employer and employee contributions. There is no statutory requirement for private health cover or a pension.

Private medical cover, group life and an approved pension plan are standard for professional roles even though they are not mandatory.

EORs often bundle benefits through a group scheme. Ask what is included in the fee and what is billed on top.

Payroll and tax

Payroll usually runs monthly in JMD. Income tax is withheld at source under PAYE, at 25% and 30% above an annual tax-free threshold.

Employer contributions add about 12.5% on top of gross salary: NIS 3% up to an annual earnings ceiling, NHT 3%, Education Tax 3.5% and the HEART/NSTA Trust levy 3%. That is before the EOR fee.

Remittance deadlines are the trap. PAYE and all statutory contributions are due to Tax Administration Jamaica by the 14th of the following month, and late payment attracts surcharges and interest, so ask how the EOR evidences on-time filing.

Work permits

Foreign hires need a work permit from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, applied for by the employing entity. Processing typically takes 4 to 8 weeks.

Ask whether the EOR sponsors directly or refers to a partner. A partner-model EOR often cannot sponsor at all, and the sponsor must show that no suitably qualified Jamaican is available for the role.

CARICOM nationals in the approved skill categories can work under a skills certificate instead of a permit. Set start dates after approval, not before.

Data protection

Employee data is processed under the Data Protection Act 2020, with the EOR acting as controller for employment records and processor for your instructions.

Data controllers must register with the Information Commissioner, so confirm the EOR has done so. Get the data processing terms in the service agreement, not just the privacy notice. Cross-border transfers need adequate protection in the receiving country or an approved safeguard.

Ask where payroll data is hosted and who in the partner chain can see it.

When to open your own entity

The usual trigger in Jamaica is 5 to 15 employees, or a permanent commercial presence. Below that, an EOR is normally cheaper and faster.

Incorporation here is quick, but the running cost is the point: a company secretary, a registered office, annual returns, audited accounts unless an exemption applies and payroll software set an annual floor.

Permanent establishment risk is about what people do, not where payroll sits. Revenue-generating activity can create exposure regardless of the employment route.

G-P is one of the most compliance-focused EORs available, with over 100 of its own legal entities and a long record in heavily regulated countries. Its list price starts at USD 599 per employee per month, but independent reviewers report higher quotes, a one-off setup fee per hire, a deposit, an FX markup and an offboarding charge. Shortlist it if you’re a larger business that puts compliance ahead of cost, and get the full fee schedule in writing before you sign.

Oyster suits companies that want HR experts, legal support and termination handling included in one EOR fee, along with integrations for the most common HRIS and ATS platforms. The trade-offs are a USD 699 monthly list price, a refundable deposit of about one month's employment cost per hire, and EOR coverage of 120+ countries rather than the 180+ headline. There are no onboarding or offboarding fees, and monthly billing carries no minimum term.

Questions buyers ask about Jamaica

How much does it cost to employ someone in Jamaica through an EOR?
Budget the gross salary, plus about 12.5% in employer contributions, plus the EOR fee. Published EOR fees sit in the 199 to 699 USD per employee per month band, or a percentage of payroll.
How long does it take to onboard an employee in Jamaica?
Typically 2 to 7 working days once the candidate has accepted and right to work is confirmed. Work permit cases take considerably longer.
Can an EOR terminate an employee in Jamaica?
Yes. Notice or pay in lieu applies and termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5, but the EOR will still want a documented reason to limit unjustifiable dismissal exposure at the Industrial Disputes Tribunal.
Does the EOR need its own entity in Jamaica?
Someone in the chain must hold a local entity, and only that entity can apply for a work permit. Ask whether the provider owns it or uses a partner, in writing.
