  • Price 599 USD per employee per month

Deel says it owns entities in more than 130 countries, which puts it among the largest owned networks of any EOR provider. Its published EOR fee of USD 599 per employee per month is in line with the other large platforms, and contracts run month to month. It suits companies hiring both contractors and employees across several countries. Before signing, get the deposit amount and FX markup in writing, confirm that no offboarding fee applies, and check which of your countries run through a partner rather than a Deel entity.

  • Price 699 USD per employee per month

Remote employs your staff through entities it owns in every country where it offers EOR, and its terms leave indemnities for EOR services uncapped, so it ranks well on compliance. The cost is a list fee of USD 699 per employee per month, and the margin in its monthly FX rate is not published. Standard terms can be cancelled on 30 days' notice, but an order form with a minimum contract value commits you for its full term and renews at a higher price. Shortlist it if owned entities in every country matter most to you, and get the FX margin and any order form terms in writing before you sign.

Notice: notice periods for employer-initiated dismissals strictly depend on continuous tenure, requiring 1 month for service under 2 years, 2 months for 2 to 4 years, 3 months for 4 to 6 years, 4 months for 6 to 8 years, 5 months for 8 to 10 years, and 6 months for continuous service of 10 years or more; whereas employee resignations require a flat minimum of 1 month's notice regardless of tenure, unless a longer period is stipulated by a collective bargaining agreement.

Employment contracts

Written key employment terms are required in Sweden within seven days of the start date, and the EOR issues them as the legal employer. Your company signs a separate service agreement.

The terms set out role, salary in SEK, working time, leave, notice, any applicable collective agreement and any restrictive covenants. The EOR is the counterparty to the employee, which is what removes the need for your own entity.

English is common for commercial roles, but collective agreements are written in Swedish.

Fixed-term contracts are permitted, but they convert to permanent employment after more than 12 months in a five-year period, and most EORs default to indefinite terms.

Probation

Probation in Sweden is capped at 6 months. It can be ended without a stated reason, but the employee must be notified at least 2 weeks in advance.

Set probation from day one. The 6-month cap cannot be extended by individual agreement, only through a collective agreement.

Probation converts to permanent employment automatically if the notice deadline is missed. Ask the EOR how it tracks that date before you agree a start date.

Working time and overtime

The standard week is 40 hours. Overtime pay is not set by statute and comes from the collective agreement or the contract.

Overtime is capped at 200 hours a year, and collective agreements typically pay a premium of 50% to 100% on the hourly rate.

Many professional contracts fold overtime into salary, often with extra leave days in return. Put the position in writing either way.

Leave and public holidays

Employees are entitled to at least 25 days of annual leave, plus 13 public holidays. Sick and parental leave sit on top.

Market practice for professional roles is 25 to 30 days, with extra days often given in place of overtime pay, so quote the market figure when you budget. New starters may not have earned paid leave in year one, so many employers grant it in advance.

The employer pays sick pay at 80% for the first 14 days, less a qualifying deduction, and the state takes over from day 15. Parental leave of 480 days per child is state funded, but collective agreements often add an employer top-up, so confirm which side the EOR carries.

Termination and severance

Termination difficulty here is 4 out of 5. Employer notice runs one to six months by tenure, and every dismissal needs objective grounds.

Grounds are either redundancy or personal reasons, and redeployment must be considered first. There is no statutory severance, but negotiated settlements are common and collective agreements can add transition support.

The EOR runs the process as the legal employer and will want the paperwork in order, including union consultation, selection order in redundancies, final pay and accrued holiday pay. An unlawful dismissal can be declared invalid or attract damages, so keep a documented reason.

Statutory benefits

Employer social contributions are the dominant statutory cost and apply to every employee on Swedish payroll, whatever their nationality. Occupational pension is not required by law but is near-universal through collective agreements.

Occupational pension, group life, private health insurance and a tax-free wellness allowance are standard for professional roles even though none of them is mandatory.

EORs often bundle benefits through a group scheme or a collective agreement. Ask what is included in the fee and what is billed on top.

Payroll and tax

Payroll runs monthly in SEK, usually on the 25th. Income tax is withheld at source and reported to the Swedish Tax Agency every month.

Employer contributions add 31.42% on top of gross salary for most employees. That is before the EOR fee.

Pension cost is the trap. Occupational pension contributions attract a special payroll tax of 24.26%, so a 4.5% pension contribution costs closer to 5.6% of salary. Build that into the budget alongside the 31.42%.

Work permits

Hires from outside the EU/EEA need a work permit, and the employing entity must offer at least 90% of the national median salary plus the required insurance cover. Processing takes 4 weeks to 3 months.

Ask whether the EOR sponsors directly or refers to a partner. A partner-model EOR often cannot sponsor at all, and the salary floor and insurance requirements apply to the sponsor, not to you.

Set start dates after approval, not before.

Data protection

Employee data is processed under GDPR and the Swedish Data Protection Act, with the EOR acting as controller for employment records and processor for your instructions.

Get the data processing terms in the service agreement, not just the privacy notice. Transfers outside the EEA need a lawful basis, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.

Ask where payroll data is hosted and who in the partner chain can see it.

When to open your own entity

The usual trigger in Sweden is 5 to 15 employees, or a permanent commercial presence. Below that, an EOR is normally cheaper and faster.

Incorporation here is straightforward, but the running cost is the point: SEK 25,000 share capital, director residency rules, bookkeeping, audit thresholds, monthly employer returns and payroll software set an annual floor.

Permanent establishment risk is about what people do, not where payroll sits. Revenue-generating activity can create exposure regardless of the employment route.

The trade-offs are a USD 699 monthly list price, a refundable deposit of about one month's employment cost per hire, and EOR coverage of 120+ countries rather than the 180+ headline. There are no onboarding or offboarding fees, and monthly billing carries no minimum term.

Questions buyers ask about Sweden

How much does it cost to employ someone in Sweden through an EOR?
Budget the gross salary, plus 31.42% in employer contributions, plus occupational pension where it applies, plus the EOR fee. Published EOR fees sit in the 199 to 699 USD per employee per month band, or a percentage of payroll.
How long does it take to onboard an employee in Sweden?
Typically 2 to 7 working days once the candidate has accepted and right to work is confirmed. Work permit cases take considerably longer.
Can an EOR terminate an employee in Sweden?
Yes. Objective grounds and notice of one to six months apply, and termination difficulty here is 4 out of 5, so the EOR will want a documented reason to limit unfair dismissal exposure.
Does the EOR need its own entity in Sweden?
Someone in the chain must be registered as an employer with the Swedish Tax Agency, and only that employer can sponsor a work permit. Ask whether the provider holds that registration itself or uses a partner, in writing.
