  • Price 599 USD per employee per month

Deel says it owns entities in more than 130 countries, which puts it among the largest owned networks of any EOR provider. Its published EOR fee of USD 599 per employee per month is in line with the other large platforms, and contracts run month to month. It suits companies hiring both contractors and employees across several countries. Before signing, get the deposit amount and FX markup in writing, confirm that no offboarding fee applies, and check which of your countries run through a partner rather than a Deel entity.

  • Price 699 USD per employee per month

Remote employs your staff through entities it owns in every country where it offers EOR, and its terms leave indemnities for EOR services uncapped, so it ranks well on compliance. The cost is a list fee of USD 699 per employee per month, and the margin in its monthly FX rate is not published. Standard terms can be cancelled on 30 days' notice, but an order form with a minimum contract value commits you for its full term and renews at a higher price. Shortlist it if owned entities in every country matter most to you, and get the FX margin and any order form terms in writing before you sign.

Employment contracts

A written employment contract is required in Hungary, and the EOR issues it as the legal employer. Your company signs a separate service agreement.

The terms set out role, base salary in HUF, working time, leave, notice and any restrictive covenants. The EOR is the counterparty to the employee, which is what removes the need for your own entity. Any key terms not in the contract must be confirmed in writing within 7 days of the start date.

Bilingual Hungarian and English contracts are standard for commercial roles, although Hungarian is not legally required if the employee understands the language used.

Fixed-term contracts are capped at 5 years including renewals, and each renewal needs a legitimate business reason, so most EORs default to indefinite terms.

Probation

Probation in Hungary is capped at 3 months, or 6 months under a collective agreement. Either side can end employment with immediate effect during probation, but the period must be stated in the contract.

Set probation from day one, because it cannot be added later. An extension is only possible once, by agreement, and only up to the cap.

Some EORs shorten probation as policy because they, not you, carry the dismissal risk. Ask before you agree a start date.

Working time and overtime

The standard week is 40 hours. Overtime pay is statutory for almost every employee, and overtime is capped at 250 hours a year by default.

Overtime carries a 50% supplement, or 100% on rest days and public holidays, and agreed time off can replace the weekday supplement.

Executive employees can be carved out by contract, and a monthly lump sum can replace the supplement for others. Put the position in writing either way.

Leave and public holidays

Employees get 20 working days of paid annual leave, rising with age to 30, plus 11 public holidays. Sick, maternity and parental leave sit on top.

Parents also get up to 7 extra days for children under 16. These top-ups are statutory, so budget per employee rather than with a flat market figure.

Paid sick leave splits into 15 working days a year paid by the employer at 70% of absence pay, followed by state-funded sick pay. Maternity pay is state funded, while paternity and parental leave are paid by the employer, so confirm which side the EOR carries.

Termination and severance

Termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5. Notice runs 30 to 90 days by tenure, and statutory severance of 1 to 6 months' pay applies after 3 years' service.

The employer must give a written reason linked to the employee's ability, conduct or the employer's operations. The employee must be released from work for at least half the notice period, on full pay.

The EOR runs the process as the legal employer and will want the paperwork in order, including final pay, unused leave and any severance. Unlawful dismissal claims can cost up to 12 months' absence pay, so keep a documented reason.

Statutory benefits

The 13% social contribution tax is the dominant statutory cost and applies to every employee on Hungarian payroll. There is no separate employer pension or health contribution, as employees fund these through an 18.5% deduction.

Private medical cover and cafeteria benefits such as the SZÉP card are standard for professional roles even though they are not mandatory.

EORs often bundle benefits through a group scheme. Ask what is included in the fee and what is billed on top.

Payroll and tax

Payroll runs monthly in HUF, usually paid by the 10th of the following month. Income tax is withheld at source at a flat 15%, alongside the employee's 18.5% social security contribution.

Employer contributions add 13% on top of gross salary. That is before the EOR fee.

Personal tax allowances are the trap. Under-25s and qualifying mothers pay reduced or no income tax, and family allowances cut withholding further, so the same gross salary can produce very different net pay. Agree offers in gross terms and let the EOR confirm entitlements at onboarding.

Work permits

Non-EU hires need a residence permit for work, usually the EU Blue Card, which requires a degree and a salary of at least HUF 1 million a month in 2026. Processing takes 4 to 10 weeks.

EU and EEA nationals need no permit, only registration if they stay beyond 90 days.

Ask whether the EOR sponsors directly or refers to a partner. A partner-model EOR often cannot sponsor at all, and the general employment permit is now open to first-time applicants from only a few countries.

Set start dates after approval, not before.

Data protection

Employee data is processed under GDPR and the Hungarian Privacy Act, with the EOR acting as controller for employment records and processor for your instructions.

Get the data processing terms in the service agreement, not just the privacy notice. Transfers outside the EEA need a lawful basis, such as standard contractual clauses.

Ask where payroll data is hosted and who in the partner chain can see it.

When to open your own entity

The usual trigger in Hungary is 5 to 15 employees, or a permanent commercial presence. Below that, an EOR is normally cheaper and faster.

Incorporation here is quick, but the running cost is the point: a registered seat, HUF 3 million in share capital, bookkeeping, local business tax, audit thresholds and payroll software set an annual floor.

Permanent establishment risk is about what people do, not where payroll sits. Revenue-generating activity can create exposure regardless of the employment route.

G-P is one of the most compliance-focused EORs available, with over 100 of its own legal entities and a long record in heavily regulated countries. Its list price starts at USD 599 per employee per month, but independent reviewers report higher quotes, a one-off setup fee per hire, a deposit, an FX markup and an offboarding charge. Shortlist it if you’re a larger business that puts compliance ahead of cost, and get the full fee schedule in writing before you sign.

Oyster suits companies that want HR experts, legal support and termination handling included in one EOR fee, along with integrations for the most common HRIS and ATS platforms. The trade-offs are a USD 699 monthly list price, a refundable deposit of about one month's employment cost per hire, and EOR coverage of 120+ countries rather than the 180+ headline. There are no onboarding or offboarding fees, and monthly billing carries no minimum term.

Questions buyers ask about Hungary

How much does it cost to employ someone in Hungary through an EOR?
Budget the gross salary, plus 13% in employer contributions, plus the EOR fee. Published EOR fees sit in the 199 to 699 USD per employee per month band, or a percentage of payroll.
How long does it take to onboard an employee in Hungary?
Typically 2 to 7 working days once the candidate has accepted and right to work is confirmed. Non-EU hires who need a permit take considerably longer.
Can an EOR terminate an employee in Hungary?
Yes. Notice applies, severance applies after 3 years' service and termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5, but the EOR must give a written reason, so expect it to ask for documentation first.
Does the EOR need its own entity in Hungary?
Someone in the chain should hold a local entity, as that is how Hungarian payroll is run and permits are sponsored in practice. Ask whether the provider owns it or uses a partner, in writing.
