  • Price 599 USD per employee per month

Deel says it owns entities in more than 130 countries, which puts it among the largest owned networks of any EOR provider. Its published EOR fee of USD 599 per employee per month is in line with the other large platforms, and contracts run month to month. It suits companies hiring both contractors and employees across several countries. Before signing, get the deposit amount and FX markup in writing, confirm that no offboarding fee applies, and check which of your countries run through a partner rather than a Deel entity.

  • Price 699 USD per employee per month

Remote employs your staff through entities it owns in every country where it offers EOR, and its terms leave indemnities for EOR services uncapped, so it ranks well on compliance. The cost is a list fee of USD 699 per employee per month, and the margin in its monthly FX rate is not published. Standard terms can be cancelled on 30 days' notice, but an order form with a minimum contract value commits you for its full term and renews at a higher price. Shortlist it if owned entities in every country matter most to you, and get the FX margin and any order form terms in writing before you sign.

Employment contracts

A written employment contract is required in Lithuania, and the EOR issues it as the legal employer. Your company signs a separate service agreement.

The contract sets out role, salary in EUR, working time, leave, notice and any restrictive covenants. The EOR is the counterparty to the employee, which is what removes the need for your own entity.

Lithuanian is the required contract language, so most EORs issue a bilingual Lithuanian and English version.

Fixed-term contracts are permitted, but for permanent work they are capped at 20% of an employer's contracts and carry a higher employer contribution, so most EORs default to indefinite terms.

Probation

Probation in Lithuania is capped at 3 months, or 6 months for employees paid at least twice the national average salary. Either side can end it on 3 working days' notice, but the terms must be stated in the contract.

Set probation from day one. It cannot be extended by agreement, although time the employee is absent through illness or leave does not count towards it.

Some EORs shorten probation as policy because they, not you, carry the dismissal risk. Ask before you agree a start date.

Working time and overtime

The standard week is 40 hours, with a 48-hour average cap including overtime. Overtime pay applies to every employee, with no salary threshold.

Overtime is paid at no less than 1.5 times the hourly rate, rising to 2 times on unscheduled rest days or at night and 2.5 times on public holidays. It is capped at 8 hours a week, or 12 with written consent, and 180 hours a year.

Senior hires are not carved out, so overtime stays a statutory matter at every level. Keep accurate working time records either way.

Leave and public holidays

Employees get at least 20 working days of paid annual leave, plus 16 public holidays. Sick, maternity and childcare leave sit on top.

Market practice for professional roles sits close to the statutory 20 days, so the legal minimum is a fair figure to budget on. Three of the public holidays always fall on a Sunday, so fewer working days are lost than the count suggests.

The employer pays the first two days of sick leave at 62.06% to 100% of average pay, and Sodra pays from day three. Maternity, paternity and childcare benefits are paid by Sodra, not the employer, so confirm the EOR handles the claims.

Termination and severance

Termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5. Notice runs two weeks to one month where the employee is not at fault, longer for protected groups, and statutory severance applies.

Dismissal needs a statutory ground, such as redundancy, poor results, the employee's fault or the employer's will. Severance is set by the Labour Code: two months' average pay after a year of service, half a month's below that, and at least six months' pay for dismissal at the employer's will on 3 working days' notice.

The EOR runs the process as the legal employer and will want the paperwork in order, including final pay, unused leave and severance. Unfair dismissal claims go to the Labour Disputes Commission within one month, so keep a documented reason.

Statutory benefits

Social insurance through Sodra is the dominant statutory cost and applies to every employee, whatever their nationality. Almost all of it is withheld from the employee, which keeps the employer share unusually light.

Private health insurance is a common perk for professional roles even though it is not mandatory.

EORs often bundle benefits through a group scheme. Ask what is included in the fee and what is billed on top.

Payroll and tax

Payroll runs in EUR, at least twice a month unless the employee asks to be paid monthly. Income tax and employee social insurance are withheld at source.

Employer contributions add around 1.77% on top of gross salary for indefinite contracts and 2.49% for fixed-term ones. That is before the EOR fee. The employee's 19.5% social insurance and income tax at 20%, 25% or 32% come out of gross.

Sodra registration is the trap. The employer must notify Sodra before the employee starts, and work begun without that notice counts as undeclared work, so build it into the onboarding timeline.

Work permits

EU and EEA nationals need no permit, but non-EU hires need a temporary residence permit or EU Blue Card sponsored by a local employer. Processing typically takes up to 3 months.

Ask whether the EOR sponsors directly or refers to a partner. A partner-model EOR often cannot sponsor at all, and the trading-history, tax-debt and compliance checks apply to the sponsor, not to you. An annual national quota also applies unless the hire qualifies for a Blue Card or clears a salary threshold.

Set start dates after approval, not before.

Data protection

Employee data is processed under the GDPR and Lithuania's Law on the Legal Protection of Personal Data, with the EOR acting as controller for employment records and processor for your instructions.

Get the data processing terms in the service agreement, not just the privacy notice. Transfers outside the EEA need an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.

Ask where payroll data is hosted and who in the partner chain can see it.

When to open your own entity

The usual trigger in Lithuania is 5 to 15 employees, or a permanent commercial presence. Below that, an EOR is normally cheaper and faster.

Incorporation here is quick and needs only 1,000 EUR of share capital for a private limited company (UAB), but the running cost is the point: a registered address, accounting, annual financial statements, audit thresholds and payroll software set an annual floor.

Permanent establishment risk is about what people do, not where payroll sits. Revenue-generating activity can create exposure regardless of the employment route.

G-P is one of the most compliance-focused EORs available, with over 100 of its own legal entities and a long record in heavily regulated countries. Its list price starts at USD 599 per employee per month, but independent reviewers report higher quotes, a one-off setup fee per hire, a deposit, an FX markup and an offboarding charge. Shortlist it if you’re a larger business that puts compliance ahead of cost, and get the full fee schedule in writing before you sign.

Oyster suits companies that want HR experts, legal support and termination handling included in one EOR fee, along with integrations for the most common HRIS and ATS platforms. The trade-offs are a USD 699 monthly list price, a refundable deposit of about one month's employment cost per hire, and EOR coverage of 120+ countries rather than the 180+ headline. There are no onboarding or offboarding fees, and monthly billing carries no minimum term.

Questions buyers ask about Lithuania

How much does it cost to employ someone in Lithuania through an EOR?
Budget the gross salary, plus around 1.77% in employer contributions on an indefinite contract, plus the EOR fee. Published EOR fees sit in the 199 to 699 USD per employee per month band, or a percentage of payroll.
How long does it take to onboard an employee in Lithuania?
Typically 2 to 7 working days once the candidate has accepted and right to work is confirmed. Non-EU hires who need a residence permit take considerably longer.
Can an EOR terminate an employee in Lithuania?
Yes. A statutory ground, notice and severance apply and termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5, but the EOR will still want a documented reason to limit unfair dismissal exposure.
Does the EOR need its own entity in Lithuania?
Someone in the chain must hold a local entity, and only that entity can sponsor a work-based residence permit. Ask whether the provider owns it or uses a partner, in writing.
