  • Price 599 USD per employee per month

Deel says it owns entities in more than 130 countries, which puts it among the largest owned networks of any EOR provider. Its published EOR fee of USD 599 per employee per month is in line with the other large platforms, and contracts run month to month. It suits companies hiring both contractors and employees across several countries. Before signing, get the deposit amount and FX markup in writing, confirm that no offboarding fee applies, and check which of your countries run through a partner rather than a Deel entity.

  • Price 699 USD per employee per month

Remote employs your staff through entities it owns in every country where it offers EOR, and its terms leave indemnities for EOR services uncapped, so it ranks well on compliance. The cost is a list fee of USD 699 per employee per month, and the margin in its monthly FX rate is not published. Standard terms can be cancelled on 30 days' notice, but an order form with a minimum contract value commits you for its full term and renews at a higher price. Shortlist it if owned entities in every country matter most to you, and get the FX margin and any order form terms in writing before you sign.

Employment contracts

A written employment contract is required in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the EOR issues it as the legal employer. Your company signs a separate service agreement.

The contract sets out role, salary in BAM, working time, leave, notice and any restrictive covenants. The EOR is the counterparty to the employee, which is what removes the need for your own entity.

Contracts are drafted in Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian, often with an English version alongside. Labour law is set by each entity, so the contract follows the rules of the Federation, Republika Srpska or Brčko District, depending on where the employee works.

Fixed-term contracts are capped at three years in both entities, and most EORs default to indefinite terms.

Probation

Probation in Bosnia and Herzegovina runs up to 6 months in the Federation and 3 months in Republika Srpska. Notice during probation is at least 7 days, and the terms must be stated in the contract.

Set probation from day one. In Republika Srpska, an extension to 6 months needs the employee's agreement. In the Federation, 6 months is the ceiling.

Some EORs shorten probation as policy because they, not you, carry the dismissal risk. Ask before you agree a start date.

Working time and overtime

The standard week is 40 hours. Overtime is capped at 8 hours a week in the Federation and 10 in Republika Srpska.

Overtime is paid at a premium set by collective agreement or the employer's work rules. Republika Srpska also limits it to 180 hours a year unless a collective agreement allows more.

There is no salary threshold that takes senior hires out of the rules, so put the position in writing and make sure hours are recorded.

Leave and public holidays

Employees get at least 20 working days of paid annual leave, plus public holidays set by each entity rather than the state. Sick, maternity and religious leave sit on top.

Leave usually rises with length of service under collective agreements and work rules, typically up to 30 days, so budget above the floor for experienced hires. There is no single national holiday calendar, so days off depend on where the employee works and, for religious holidays, on their faith.

The employer pays the first 42 days of sick leave in the Federation and the first 30 days in Republika Srpska before the health insurance fund takes over. Maternity leave runs 12 months and is funded publicly, but the rate and reimbursement process differ by entity and, in the Federation, by canton. Confirm which side the EOR carries.

Termination and severance

Termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5. Notice runs 14 days to three months in the Federation and at least 30 days in Republika Srpska, and statutory severance applies after two years' service.

Dismissal needs a justified reason, given in writing. Statutory severance is one third of average monthly pay for each year of service, capped at six months' pay, for employees with two years on an indefinite contract who are not dismissed for misconduct.

The EOR runs the process as the legal employer and will want the paperwork in order, including final pay, unused leave and severance. If it releases the employee early, the full notice period is still paid. Unfair dismissal claims can end in reinstatement or compensation, so keep a documented reason.

Statutory benefits

Pension, health and unemployment insurance are the dominant statutory costs and apply to foreign hires too, unless a social security agreement says otherwise. Most of the cost is deducted from the employee's gross pay rather than added on top.

Meal, transport and holiday allowances are where budgets slip. Collective agreements in the Federation commonly require them, and they are standard practice elsewhere, so check they are in the quote.

Private medical cover is not mandatory, though some employers add it for senior roles. EORs often bundle benefits through a group scheme. Ask what is included in the fee and what is billed on top.

Payroll and tax

Payroll runs monthly in BAM. Income tax is withheld at source at a flat 10% in the Federation and 8% in Republika Srpska.

Employer contributions add 5% on top of gross salary in the Federation, plus a few small levies, and nothing in Republika Srpska. That is before the EOR fee.

The entity is the trap. Tax, contributions and labour law follow where the employee works, so a hire in Banja Luka is costed differently from one in Sarajevo, and Brčko District has rules of its own. Confirm the location before you accept a quote.

Work permits

Foreign hires need a work permit, issued within an annual quota, and a temporary residence permit. The sponsoring entity applies, and processing usually takes 1 to 3 months.

Ask whether the EOR sponsors directly or refers to a partner. A partner-model EOR often cannot sponsor at all, and the quota and labour market checks apply to the sponsor, not to you.

Quotas are set for each entity every year, and the permit is tied to the employer and the role. Set start dates after approval, not before.

Data protection

Employee data is processed under the 2025 Law on Personal Data Protection, which follows the GDPR, with the EOR acting as controller for employment records and processor for your instructions.

Get the data processing terms in the service agreement, not just the privacy notice. Cross-border transfers need a lawful basis, and the Personal Data Protection Agency supervises.

Ask where payroll data is hosted and who in the partner chain can see it.

When to open your own entity

The usual trigger in Bosnia and Herzegovina is 5 to 15 employees, or a permanent commercial presence. Below that, an EOR is normally cheaper and faster.

Incorporation runs through entity-level court registers rather than a single national system, and the running cost is the point: accounting, statutory reporting, audit thresholds, payroll software and a work permit for any foreign director on the payroll set an annual floor. With staff on both sides of the inter-entity line, expect registrations in both.

Permanent establishment risk is about what people do, not where payroll sits. Revenue-generating activity can create exposure regardless of the employment route.

G-P is one of the most compliance-focused EORs available, with over 100 of its own legal entities and a long record in heavily regulated countries. Its list price starts at USD 599 per employee per month, but independent reviewers report higher quotes, a one-off setup fee per hire, a deposit, an FX markup and an offboarding charge. The trade-offs are a USD 699 monthly list price, a refundable deposit of about one month's employment cost per hire, and EOR coverage of 120+ countries rather than the 180+ headline. Questions buyers ask about Bosnia and Herzegovina

How much does it cost to employ someone in Bosnia and Herzegovina through an EOR?
Budget the gross salary, plus 5% in employer contributions in the Federation or nothing in Republika Srpska, plus any allowances required by collective agreement, plus the EOR fee. Published EOR fees sit in the 199 to 699 USD per employee per month band, or a percentage of payroll.
How long does it take to onboard an employee in Bosnia and Herzegovina?
Typically 2 to 7 working days once the candidate has accepted and right to work is confirmed. The employee must be registered for compulsory insurance before starting, and work permit cases take considerably longer.
Can an EOR terminate an employee in Bosnia and Herzegovina?
Yes. Notice applies, or the full notice period is paid if the employee is released early, and termination difficulty here is 3 out of 5. The EOR will still want a justified reason in writing, and severance is due after two years' service.
Does the EOR need its own entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina?
Someone in the chain must hold a local entity, ideally registered where your employee will work, and only that entity can sponsor a work permit. Ask whether the provider owns it or uses a partner, in writing.
