  • Price 599 USD per employee per month

Deel says it owns entities in more than 130 countries, which puts it among the largest owned networks of any EOR provider. Its published EOR fee of USD 599 per employee per month is in line with the other large platforms, and contracts run month to month. It suits companies hiring both contractors and employees across several countries. Before signing, get the deposit amount and FX markup in writing, confirm that no offboarding fee applies, and check which of your countries run through a partner rather than a Deel entity.

90countries covered

  • Price 699 USD per employee per month

Remote employs your staff through entities it owns in every country where it offers EOR, and its terms leave indemnities for EOR services uncapped, so it ranks well on compliance. The cost is a list fee of USD 699 per employee per month, and the margin in its monthly FX rate is not published. Standard terms can be cancelled on 30 days' notice, but an order form with a minimum contract value commits you for its full term and renews at a higher price. Shortlist it if owned entities in every country matter most to you, and get the FX margin and any order form terms in writing before you sign.

Employment contracts

Written employment particulars are required in Tanzania, and the EOR issues them as the legal employer. Your company signs a separate service agreement.

The terms set out role, salary in TZS, working hours, leave, notice and any restrictive covenants. The EOR is the counterparty to the employee, which is what removes the need for your own entity.

English is the standard contract language for commercial roles.

Fixed-term contracts are limited to categories listed in the Act, such as project roles and non-citizens on time-limited permits, so most EORs default to indefinite terms.

Probation

Probation in Tanzania is typically 6 months and cannot exceed 12. Notice during probation is shorter, but the terms must be stated in the contract.

Set probation from day one and run the reviews the Code of Good Practice expects. On a fixed-term contract, a procedural slip during probation can cost the rest of the contract.

Some EORs shorten probation as policy because they, not you, carry the dismissal risk. Ask before you agree a start date.

Working time and overtime

The standard week is 45 hours, with no more than 9 ordinary hours a day. Overtime rules cover most employees, with an exemption for managers who report directly to senior management.

Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the basic hourly wage, with a cap of 50 overtime hours in any four-week cycle.

Seniority, not salary, decides the exemption, so a well-paid specialist with no direct reports is still covered. Put the position in writing either way.

Leave and public holidays

Employees get 28 consecutive days of paid annual leave, plus about 17 public holidays. Sick, maternity and paternity leave sit on top.

The 28 days run consecutively and include weekends and any public holidays that fall within them, so they amount to four calendar weeks. Budget on that basis rather than 28 working days.

Paid sick leave runs to 126 days in a 36-month cycle, the first 63 at full pay and the next 63 at half pay. Maternity leave is 84 days, longer for multiple or premature births, and maternity pay can come from NSSF for qualifying members or from the employer, so confirm which side the EOR carries.

Termination and severance

Termination difficulty here is 4 out of 5. Notice is 28 days for monthly-paid staff, and statutory severance is 7 days' basic wage per completed year, capped at 10 years.

Either side may terminate on notice or pay in lieu. After six months' service, dismissal needs a fair reason and a fair procedure, and unfair termination awards run from 6 to 24 months' remuneration depending on the defect.

The EOR runs the process as the legal employer and will want the paperwork in order, including final pay, unused leave, severance after 12 months' service, a certificate of service and transport back to the place of recruitment. Claims go to the Commission for Mediation and Arbitration within 30 days, so keep a documented reason.

Statutory benefits

The National Social Security Fund is the dominant statutory cost at 20% of gross pay, split equally between employer and employee. It covers foreign employees as well as citizens.

Health insurance became compulsory under the Universal Health Insurance Act 2023, with the national roll-out starting in January 2026. Employers must fund cover, either through the national scheme or an approved private policy, and private medical cover remains standard for professional roles.

EORs often bundle benefits through a group scheme. Ask what is included in the fee and what is billed on top.

Payroll and tax

Payroll runs monthly in TZS. Income tax is withheld at source through PAYE, at progressive rates up to 30%.

Employer contributions add around 14% on top of gross salary: 10% NSSF, 3.5% skills development levy and 0.5% workers' compensation. That is before health cover and the EOR fee.

The currency rule is the trap. Bank of Tanzania regulations in force since March 2025 require domestic payments, salaries included, to be priced and paid in TZS, so convert any USD offer before the contract is signed.

Work permits

Foreign hires need a work permit from the Labour Commissioner and a Class B residence permit, and the sponsoring entity must show the role cannot be filled locally. Processing takes 6 to 12 weeks.

Ask whether the EOR sponsors directly or refers to a partner. A partner-model EOR often cannot sponsor at all, and succession plans and local hiring checks apply to the sponsor, not to you.

Set start dates after approval, not before.

Data protection

Employee data is processed under the Personal Data Protection Act 2022, with the EOR acting as controller for employment records and processor for your instructions.

Get the data processing terms in the service agreement, not just the privacy notice. Controllers and processors must register with the Personal Data Protection Commission, and transfers out of Tanzania need adequate protection or contractual safeguards.

Ask for the EOR's registration, where payroll data is hosted and who in the partner chain can see it.

When to open your own entity

The usual trigger in Tanzania is 10 to 20 employees, or a permanent commercial presence. Below that, an EOR is normally cheaper and faster.

Incorporation through BRELA is quick, but the running cost is the point: a company secretary, a statutory audit for every company, tax filings with the TRA, NSSF and WCF registrations and business licences set an annual floor.

Permanent establishment risk is about what people do, not where payroll sits. Revenue-generating activity can create exposure regardless of the employment route.

G-P is one of the most compliance-focused EORs available, with over 100 of its own legal entities and a long record in heavily regulated countries. Its list price starts at USD 599 per employee per month, but independent reviewers report higher quotes, a one-off setup fee per hire, a deposit, an FX markup and an offboarding charge. Shortlist it if you’re a larger business that puts compliance ahead of cost, and get the full fee schedule in writing before you sign.

Oyster suits companies that want HR experts, legal support and termination handling included in one EOR fee, along with integrations for the most common HRIS and ATS platforms. The trade-offs are a USD 699 monthly list price, a refundable deposit of about one month's employment cost per hire, and EOR coverage of 120+ countries rather than the 180+ headline. There are no onboarding or offboarding fees, and monthly billing carries no minimum term.

Questions buyers ask about Tanzania

How much does it cost to employ someone in Tanzania through an EOR?
Budget the gross salary, plus around 14% in employer contributions, plus health cover, plus the EOR fee. Published EOR fees sit in the 199 to 699 USD per employee per month band, or a percentage of payroll.
How long does it take to onboard an employee in Tanzania?
Typically 3 to 10 working days once the candidate has accepted and right to work is confirmed. Work permit cases take considerably longer.
Can an EOR terminate an employee in Tanzania?
Yes. Notice or pay in lieu applies and termination difficulty here is 4 out of 5, so the EOR will want a fair reason and a documented procedure to limit unfair termination exposure.
Does the EOR need its own entity in Tanzania?
Someone in the chain must hold a local entity, and only that entity can sponsor a work permit. Ask whether the provider owns it or uses a partner, in writing.
